Unique situations sometimes call for creative solutions.
Such was the case for Keltie as she found herself in the middle of a promising legal career. But when her husband was transferred to Ft. Bragg in North Carolina (and was soon to be deployed on his second tour of duty in Iraq), she knew she wanted to spend as much time as possible with him before he left.
“It wasn't realistic to think that I would be able to do my law firm work from North Carolina, or later take several weeks off from the firm whenever he was home,” Keltie said. “I also knew that I wanted to continue practicing law. So I needed to find the right fit.”
That's when Keltie, a Harvard and Virginia (J.D.) graduate with two federal clerkships and five years of big-firm experience under her belt, turned to Counsel On Call. She was immediately able to work remotely from North Carolina, and since that time has worked on a schedule she controls with the flexibility to take time off whenever she needs to. It's also helped her discover a lot about herself and the things she enjoys doing.
“I couldn't just sit around while he was gone and do nothing — it would have driven me crazy,” she said, noting that her husband is now nearing the end of his third tour. “At the same time, there are times I don't want to work. Counsel On Call has allowed me to pick and choose my assignments, so if I have a trip with my friends planned or if my husband is coming home on leave, I can work around that schedule. It's been perfect for me.” |
